Then we opened presents. He got some stickers and activity books, a Curious George movie, a 3-D dinosaur book, a bubble rocket launcher, and his big present - a fish tank.
It was a beautiful, sunny day, so we played outside with some of his new toys for a while.
Then we headed into Portland. Our main goal was to go to Petco to get him some goldfish for his tank, but we figured we do some other fun stuff while we were there. We asked him if he would rather go to a park or to the zoo and he chose a park. We grabbed some lunch from Whole Foods and headed over to Magnolia Park. It was crowded, but oh-so fun for a 3 year old. He climbed, slid, hopped and ran around for almost 2 hours.
We convinced him to leave the park so that we could go to Target so that he could pick out a new toy with the $3 that Great Grandma and Grandpa Sargent had sent him. It was a tough choice, but he eventually chose a baseball bat and ball from the bargain bins, and some gummy worms.
Then we headed to Petco to pick out his fish. Petco was like a wonderous, mini zoo for him and Levi. They were enthralled with the hamsters, guinea pigs, fish and parakeets. We decided to get 6 goldfish and 2 snails. Daniel was very proud of bag of fish and wouldn't let it go until we got home and put them in the tank.
We made a quick stop by Jamba juice and then headed home.
While on the road we made some phone calls to some friends to see if they could join us for a hot dog roast at camp. Daniel's best buddy Aiden came (and his family) and so did many of our TRFC friends. Daniel caught on to baseball pretty quick (no surprise there) and thoroughly enjoyed the evening playing baseball and horseshoes, blowing bubbles, riding in the wagon and eating some chocolate cake. :)
He had a great attitude all day and seemed to enjoy every minute of it. We are so proud of our big boy!
